Families are Forced to Make Tough Choices Every Day

Even before COVID-19, “Poverty Speaks” survey conducted in 2018. Survey was targeted to people with household incomes below $25,000 in Cuyahoga County.

45% of families with children said they had to choose between paying for food and another necessity.

24% of families with children had to make a choice between medical care and another necessity.


Individual, Family, and Community Services/Support includes: Abortion referrals, Adoption services, Adult in-home services, Benefits screening, Animal Control/Shelters/Services (including pet food), Child care/child custody services, etc.

The Center for Community Solutions
Includes only households with children. “Other necessities” include utilities, transportation, housing, education, and child care.
