How wage gaps affect Black households

The impact of wage gaps means that most Black households earn far below a living wage.

In terms of hourly wages:

  • Poverty = $9.99/hour
  • Black median income = $13.84.hour
  • Living wage for 2 adults 1 child = $12.49/hour EACH, $24.99/hour total
  • Living wage for1 adult 2 children= $26.98/hour
Insights/Notes

With a median annual income of $28,800, half of single Black wage earners in families with two children cannot earn a living wage at a minimum wage job.
