COVID-19 has dramatically exacerbated the need for senior food programs
Seniors have many food access needs. Those seniors who typically obtain food through meals at seniors centers or through home-delivered meals like Meals on Wheels may have had disruptions in these services. In addition, getting to the grocery store or a food pantry may have been hampered by fear of riding public transit, relatives afraid to transport the senior to the grocery store for fear of infecting them, or many other issues. The shocking increase in food needs may have detrimental effects down the road, as regular nutritious food is essential for seniors to maintain their physical and mental health.
